ArtBerkeley Hosts Earth Day Festival at War Memorial Park


On Saturday, April 18, 2009, ArtBerkeley Inc., a non-profit 501c3 organization, is hosting its inaugural Earth Day Festival from 10am to 4pm.   War Memorial Park, located at 500 North Tennessee Avenue in Martinsburg WV, will be transformed into a true community celebration of our Earth.  The festival is open to the public and is FREE; All kids activities are FREE; And many demonstrations and other events are FREE for adults too!


There will be regional business vendors, food vendors, artists, farmers, and many organizations in attendance.  A highlight of the entertainment will be the Wildlife Center of Virginia's Animal Habitat Presentations with Live Animals.  There will also be many recycling opportunities.  The public is encouraged to bring the following items to reuse and recycle throughout the park:


·         Outdated or Unwanted Phone Directories

·         Catalogs

·         Aluminum Cans

·         Glass

·         Newspaper (bundled)

·         Soda Cans

·         Used Cell Phones

·         Plastic Lids

·         Gently Used Books, Magazines, Toys and Canvas Bags


We have a full schedule of entertainment throughout the day.  Entertainment is for both adults and children of all ages.   A schedule of events for the Main Stage area is as follows:

            10:00am - Opening Welcome by Judy Jeffares, ArtBerkeley Inc. President and a                               Reading of The Lorax by Dr. Seuss

            10:30-11:00 - Mary & Melvin Edwards, Bluegrass band

            11:00-11:15 - Door Prize drawing & announcements

            11:15-12:15pm - Wildlife Center of Virginia Presentation with Live Animals

            12:15-12:45 - Martinsburg Woman's Choir

            12:45- 1:10 - Berkeley County Wildcats, Dance and Tumbling and Prize Drawing &                                    Announcements

            1:15-2:15 - Second Wildlife Center of Virginia Presentation with Live Animals

            2:15- 2:45 - Bells of Berkeley Choir

            2:45 -3:00 - Boomtown Hoops, Hula hoops demonstration

            3:00 -3:45 - Clyde's Karate demonstration

            3:45-4:00 - Door Prize Drawing & Final Announcements


Other events that are scheduled around the park are:

            11:00am & 1:30pm - Rain Barrel demonstration of use and installation

            All Day Events - Artwork Displays and Sales; Nature Scavenger Hunt; Put A Lid On It Project; Exchange Table of Books, Magazines, Toys, Canvas Bags; Sale of Eco-friendly Merchandise; Plant a Seed Activity; Bird Seed Bingo; Multiple Raffles; Sale of Natural and Organic Foods; Door Prizes; Musical Instruments Activity; Demonstrations of Guide Dogs & Braille; Reenactment of Medieval Sword Fights; Face Painting; Coloring; Mosaic Activity; Demonstration Making Rag Rugs and much more!

           

We have many participants as vendors and who are providing many activities. 

            Regional Organizations that will be joining us are:  Apollo Civic Theatre, The Art Centre, Berkeley Jefferson Master Gardeners, Berkeley Community Pride, Berkeley County CEOS, Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority, Berkeley County Wildcats, CCAP – Loaves and Fishes, Citizens Conservation Corps of West Virginia, Freecycle.org, Girl Scouts: Daisy Troop 751, Girl Scout Troop #462, Harpers Ferry Job Corps Center, Heritage Craft Center, Martinsburg City (Recycling Trucks), Mountain State Council of the Blind Tri-state Chapter, Potomac Valley Audubon, Opequon Radio Society, OCPT (Opequon Creek Project Team), Region 9 Air Quality Program, Rotary of Martinsburg, Shire of Sylvan Glen (SCA), TAC (Transcendental Arts Council), Wildflower Club of Campfire USA
